Manic Media Motivation

I can only appologise for not leaving a post in a while, i have been very busy! So lets start at the october half term!
Didnt really do much and was a couch potato must of the time!
Just kidding, Went to the national media muesum in Bradford with my auntie and uncle. It was a real big eye opener for me because I couldnt believe on how far the technology of cameras for instance has come. 40 years ago a camera man would be carrying up to a stone and have to worry about film strips etc. Now days it is all digitised and effects can be used with ease. There was also an exibition there on televison, I was shocked to see that there was only 3 channels when my parents were growing up! How did they mangage? Well obviously they did manage but the point is I feel that television is a huge inlfuence to the sterotypical child from aged 3 to even 16, not just for learning purposes but for entertainment as well. Where would we be without the powers of television in this day and age, news would be portrayed in different ways, would people lose knowledge of other cultures? On the other side of things, whats next, whats next in the step of technology. Only time will tell.
Anyway, on to the media studies lessons, working with the pratical side of things with Mr.V, experimenting with cameras, learning how to use final cut express etc. It took me a while to figure out the tricky macs, but 'practise makes perfect'. Just finished our first exercise of making a short film, after 3 trials we managed to do it in the end. Now our group 'maxal' is thinking about our horror film, just brainstorming some ideas... abandoned warehouse- a sense of lonliness, possibly a murder on the run through the warehouse.
In Mrs F's lessons we are studying the pratical side of things, analysing British TV drama. Looking at four different areas : Mise en scene, Sound, Cinematography and Representation.
So far we have looked at many dramas from Spooks to Skins to Doctor Who.
I am really enjoying studying bits of drama's, it just shows how much work goes into making them. You dont realise it when you watch it lesiurely but when you tear it apart you see great sets, costumes, backround actions, camera angles to show emotions, scripts, diegitic and non-diegitic sounds.
Untill next time, hopefully not 6 weeks!

Ciao.
